WORKING TOWARDS GENDER EQUALITY

AGAMEE –A Society for Help for Self Help
‘Agamee –A Society for Help for Self Help, have been working towards establishing gender equality in the society since 2013. This is done through number of activities like trainings, workshops on various social issues resulting from gender discrimination. Issues like child abuse, child marriage, domestic violence are direct fallout of gender discrimination- hence the organization finds it to be of absolute necessity to work with different sections of the society for combating it.’

Educational Institutions

Agamee –A Society for Help for Self Help, as part of its endeavour to facilitate the establishment of a violence-free, gender-just society, has envisioned tapping the inner strength within the student community and channelizing it to fulfil the mission of a gender equal society.

Working with Schools on Gender Issues

 

We were able to conduct Gender Awareness programme at different schools as part of our activity with the objective of prevention of gender discrimination and building of a gender just society. Programmes were held at Bani Mandir Bidya Niketan, Shiliguri (3 May, 2017), Dhulagore High School (11 November 2017). Sakhawat Memorial Govt. Girls’ High School (29 September, 2019) On 24 December 2021 an awareness program on gender discrimination and gender based violence was organised in collaboration with ‘Buddha Bharati High Secondary School’ with students and teachers of that Educational Institute at Siliguri district.
On 24 August, 2022 an awareness programme was held at Kashipur Block development Office, Purulia in collaboration with the local administration. The focus group was adolescent Kanyashree girl students of 32 local schools. About 75 students and 150 audiences were present in that programme. The objective was to build self awareness and self confidence among girl students for creating a society free of gender discrimination and domestic violence.

Working with Colleges and Universities about Gender Awareness Issue

 

Agamee-A Society for Help for Self Help had organized programmes focusing on issues like gender discrimination, gender based violence, financial literacy and women empowerment in collaboration with colleges and universities. The objective was to sensitise this segment of the population on the issue so that they can act as harbinger of change and spread the message of gender equality and non-violence. On 25 July 2017, a seminar was conducted on gender discrimination at Hazra Law College, Law department of University of Calcutta. Students shared their experiences with us. On the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’,(8 March 2022), Agamee-A Society for Help for Self Help took a session on Gender Sensitization at Moulana Azad Collage, Kolkata and at K. K. Das College (7 March 2024)

Working with other NGOs about Gender Awareness Issue

 

On the first phase Agamee- -A Society for Help for Self Help worked as spreading awareness rather implementing actions. Awareness program on gender discrimination and gender violence was the key point of spreading awareness and knowledge. With this view, we worked with different NGOs on Gender empowerment issue. Members of Agamee participated in a programme on Gender related issues organised by an NGO named Unmesh (11 March 2018). One of our members also delivered a lecture on gender discrimination and domestic violence issues. The organization is also working with other Organisation ‘Luthran-World Service Trust India’, ‘Birbhum Sneha’, ‘Ghosal Danga Adibasi Sangha’, ‘Sarada Ramakrishna Aashram’ on gender issues. Rotary Club Ballygange Unit invited us as the key speaker. Member of Agamee delivered lecture on Gender Empowerment issue.

Working with Communities about Gender Awareness Issue in West Bengal

 

As Agamee works closely with the communities, it becomes imperative to work with the community members on gender issues. The objective is to create awareness and create a safe space so that they can also share their experiences and take responsibility to fight against these social evils. On 15 July 2017 a seminar was conducted at Durgapur District on the issue of gender discrimination. On 14 August 2017 another seminar was conducted at Chandrakona, Midnapore District on the same issue. At Mecheda, Midnapure District, a daylong Gender Awareness programme was conducted. by Agamee-A Society for Help for Self-Help on 16 August 2017. Community people were very much enthusiastic about the programme and actively participated and cooperated with us. Another awareness program on gender discrimination and gender violence was organised in collaboration with ‘Matriseba Mission Bidyasagar Free Coaching Centre’ with community people at Lokhnath More, Ghorar Bari, Sahudangi Hat, Siliguri district on 25 December 2021. Agamee-A Society for Help for Self Help has focused on issues like gender discrimination, gender violence, financial literacy and women empowerment with the collaborations of NGOs and communities. On 9 and 10 September 2021 an awareness program on gender discrimination and gender violence was organised in collaboration with ‘Luthran World Service Trust’ with stuff training Program at ‘Kharbana’ Bankura, Kolkata.
